Where Roads End
Where Roads End was a collage performance directed by musician Evan Veasey that featured a wide range of Veasey’s musical projects. The theme of the performance was “where roads end” and Veasey shared his personal reflections on this theme between musical sets. Veasey asked me to create a painting that showcased his theme, and after listening to his music and having conversations about “where roads end”, I created the painting pictured below. I then adapted the painting into a poster for the performance.
The painting reflects a layered landscape that explores multiple planes — a cross-section of the ground is at the forefront. Featured in the cross-section, are those ant tunnels? A worm farm? The piece plays with scale and hits Veasey’s color palette right on the head: muted greens, blues, and browns with hints of purple and yellow.
In addition to creating this piece, I enjoyed assisting in the coordination of this event, and as always, listening to Veasey’s music.
